A little background on the training philosophy...
As a Doctor of Physical Therapy and Running Coach, the existence of this approach is built upon the fundamental tenet that we were created to move. Expressing that through training is truly a gift that we have the privilege of taking on every time we lace up.

Thus, Strong Runner Racing was born out of the desire to help serve those that love the sport of running feel fully alive through the process of training and challenging your body to reach new heights while avoiding the setbacks that can often come from overextending while training.

My fascination with understanding what makes people tick along with the intricacies of what it means to stay healthy from a musculoskeletal perspective has lended itself to this balanced approach. A customized and principle-based model of training that is a complete partnership between athlete and coach.

This approach is a comprehensive blend of the most cutting edge resources that train the highest level of athletes, and are deliverable to a variety of experience levels. Athletes can expect an experience that will challenge them mentally and physically to become more in-tune with their body and more balanced in their pursuit of fitness and long term goals.

The 4 Corners of Our Approach
Strength
Strength in multiple senses of the word is what helps separate this approach from many other coaching philosophies. Knowing not only how to challenge yourself with strength training principles, but how to be strong in a running specific manner is a staple for all runners. Athletes will learn science backed methods on challenging yourself on intensity days, fueling to sustain and recover, while following a weekly structure that seamlessly translates into performance.
Purpose
Knowing why you run is vital to building your foundation to train. When you understand your reasons for training, you can overpower the daily challenges that training brings to unlock potential that you didn't know you had. Discovering and embracing this not only will help you reach new heights, it can help you enjoy the sport on a whole new level while having fun! When you find what the heartbeat that fuels your training is, you can be sure that your foundation is solid.
Consistency
Being able to stick to a common goal for a long period of time is no easy feat. In training, I'm convinced that there is no greater performance metric than ones ability to train consistency without loss of training time to injury, burn out, or lack of enjoyment. As we find your rhythm, you'll begin to see what your capable of when you gain the ability to continue towards your goals and have fun doing it through the multidimensional approach that you'll enjoy in training.
balance
Family, Faith, Fitness, Future, Finances-as busy adults, there's a lot to balance in life. Your training should be one pursuit that doesn't tip the scales in the wrong direction towards burn-out. Ensuring that training helps fills your cup so that your can pour out in the other important areas of your life is key to staying consistent and having fun doing it.
In training, we'll seek to balance the domains of training while checking the high yield boxes consisting of a polarized training/hybrid model featuring low intensity, high intensity, strength training, sleep/recovery, and fueling.
Really cool Runners saying really nice things.
A runner/coaching relationship should be easy. Andrew and I started working together in August 2022 and things just clicked.
I told him about my big goal of wanting to break three hours in the marathon. We both agreed it was possible, but it would take some
work. With each training cycle we have learned what works and what doesn’t through very
open communication as we continue to work toward this goal.
Andrew masterfully pushes me to an edge that I didn’t think was possible, but in a way that keeps my body healthy. Another key component to his programming is strength training, which has kept me injury free. Andrew makes training fun, doable and most importantly, rewarding.
He has perfected the science and the art
of coaching. I would have never been able to achieve the success I’ve had in my
running career without him.

Multiple Time Boston Marathon Qualifier
Wisconsin 2023 & 2024 Marathon Champ
I started working with Coach Andrew in November of 2022. I had just completed a marathon and was pretty broken. I was sidelined from running and honestly feeling pretty defeated. I was caught up in a cycle of training for a marathon and then getting an injury flare up right around peak week of training for years. It was really hard for me to manage my chronic hip pain and I felt like I was always injured at the start line of each marathon.
Andrew guided me back into running safely. We started rebuilding from the bottom, literally. I started with 1 minute running intervals and I only had a few months to start over and then prepare to run the Boston marathon that April. With Andrew's guidance and incorporation of some runner specific exercises that were customized to me, and lots of pivots and adjustments in my training, I made it to the start line of the Boston marathon healthy. And icing on the cake, I had my best Boston marathon experience yet!!!
After Boston, we were able to incorporate more speed work and strength training into my program as he helped me tackle aches and pains, and sciatica flare ups. He is always quick to adjust my schedule to ensure I'm not overdoing it or putting myself at risk for injury or a setback. In October of 2023 I set a new Marathon PR, cut 5 minutes from my time and reached a goal of sub 3:30, a goal I had been chasing for over a decade. Three months after that, I completed the Houston marathon and set yet another PR and cut 2 more minutes off my time. I have never felt so good and so strong in my running and after years of feeling like I'd never be healthy enough to reach my sub 3:30 goal, I am now setting goals for finish times I never thought I'd see. I feel like I'm just getting started and I'm so pumped to continue moving forward.
Not only do I appreciate his guidance, expertise and effective personalized training, he has always made me feel like I am a member of his family ... cheering me on and encouraging me along the way. Some coaches, especially online, can make you feel like you're just a number. That's not the case here. Excited to continue working with Coach Andrew. The best is yet to come!!!

Boston Marathoner
On April 15th, 2024, I will be running my first Boston Marathon. My deepest gratitude goes to my outstanding coach Andrew for the work and commitment we put in together.
My journey to Boston started in 2018 at the Chicago Marathon where I qualified, however, my time did not meet the cut off because that was the year Boston raised their qualifying times making it that much harder to achieve this goal.
I’ve always loved running and running Boston was the ultimate personal accomplishment. After going through several training cycles and not achieving my desired result, I knew I needed to change my approach to training to achieve superior results.
I was introduced to Andrew by a close friend and what a difference our partnership yielded in performance and execution. Andrew listened, paid attention, and tailored a personalized training plan for me. It was not easy, but I stayed the course.
On October 1, 2022, I finally got my prize. I qualified for Boston at the St. George Marathon. One of the best days of my life. Andrew made this goal a reality for me.Â

I've had the pleasure of working with Andrew for multiple marathon training cycles; including getting my BQ and training to run Boston! As a busy working professional with a demanding job, it can be challenging to train and find time to manage it all.
Andrew is very mindful of creating a plan that works for my lifestyle; while still focusing on the goal. With his guidance, I was able to get to the starting line at Boston healthy and fully prepared for the race. I appreciate how attentive, encouraging and flexible Andrew is - he helps make training fun & exciting!

Regardless of whether you are engaging with Andrew post-injury or because you are looking to PR your next race…undoubtedly you’ll be covered throughout the injury-to-performance spectrum. Andrew’s contemporary approach to coaching is intentional while also remaining personal, appreciating the nuances of balancing family and friends, work, and other life commitments with the demands of fruitful training.
Having watched first hand several clients progress from recreational runners to achieving personal bests and Boston qualification I can assure you Andrew’s skill and situational awareness is second to none.

Doctor of Physical Therapy
This will be the 8th marathon since November 2018. I have some experience with running and training for races as I have been at it for a decade now and I have PTA license with some knowledge of the body. That being said I realize that doing what it takes to finish what it takes to run a BQ or PB is entirely different.
I reached out to Dr. Moran because I trust how knowledgeable he is. I really can tell the difference in my training with a well laid plan which led to my 2020 BQ. I don’t think I would have qualified on my own. I can say that having Dr. Drew in your corner is the wise choice!
